CHENG SHIFA MUSEUM
In 2017, we had the privilege of collaborating with the renowned Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects on a truly inspiring and ambitious project: the competition proposal for the Cheng Shifa Museum in Shanghai.
From the very beginning, we knew this project was something special. It was about honoring Cheng Shifa — a master of Chinese painting and calligraphy — through architecture that gracefully balanced cultural reverence with bold contemporary expression.
Our role was to craft a visual narrative that captured not only the monumental presence of the building, but also its deeper emotional resonance. The final image showcases the museum at night, emphasizing its striking, sculptural form rising from the urban fabric. The green-toned, textured façade glows subtly under the night sky, while the warm interior lighting invites visitors into what feels like a cultural sanctuary.
Working alongside SHL was an incredibly enriching experience. Their architectural sensibility, formal precision, and creative openness gave us the perfect foundation to push our visual storytelling further than ever.
This project reminds us why we do what we do: because sometimes, an image isn’t just a representation. It’s an emotion. A moment of architecture, lived.
